Mission:

Design a mobile, versatile, and accessible device that efficiently aids the user with limited hand mobility in bringing together the button and buttonhole, so that they can button their pants.

PantPartner

Design Rationale:

After careful observation and interviews, we identified that the most challenging part of the pants buttoning process for our client was aligning and securing the flaps of the pant fly as he guided the button through the opening.

Additionally, it was crucial for the solution to be compatible with all types of pants and buttons, without compromising the overall aesthetic of the clothing. As a result, the device was not intended to remain attached to the pants throughout its period of use. Instead, it could be discreetly stored in a pocket or bag when not in use.

Problem:

User is a 22-year-old man with spinal cord injury affecting his arm and hand movements, as well as grip strength. He sought a solution that could accommodate his busy student lifestyle and clothing preferences, allowing him to independently button his pants, especially in small public restrooms.
